The varsity wrestling team competes in over 25 dual meets per season and three tournaments - the Western New England Championships, the New England Championships, and the National Prep Wrestling Tournament at Lehigh University.
Our spacious wrestling room, located in our new athletic facility, holds the equivalent of more than three full-size competition mats and is one of the largest high school wrestling rooms in New England. Because of the size of our room and the quality of our program, other high school wrestling teams in the area send athletes to work out with us from time to time.
We have three full-time coaches who offer expertise from a variety of wrestling experience, and Pomfret wrestlers have seen a great deal of individual and team success over the last ten years. The names of League Champions, New England Champions, and National Prep All-Americans adorn our wrestling room wall. As a team, Pomfret has consistently placed high in the Western New England Tournament (including a championship in 2009) and the New England Tournament during this time.
Art has been an educator for 23 years. His experience includes teaching at Oregon Episcopal School, Northfield Mount Hermon Summer School, Deerfield Academy, and Soledad Enrichment Action (through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps). After graduating cum laude from Loomis Chaffee School, where he earned a varsity letter in four sports and was captain of the football and wrestling teams, Art earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and his advanced degree in educational administration. Art’s coaching experience is highlighted by a New England Championship in wrestling while at Deerfield Academy and a WNEISWA championship (wrestling) at Pomfret in 2009. He served as the coordinator of the action plan for Pomfret School’s 2008-2009 NEASC self-study. Art came to Pomfret in 1997 with his family, which includes his wife Martha and their five children.
