Digital Music Gets Keyboards: Technology and Music
2/3/2010
Pomfret music teacher Tim Peck explains: “Electronic Composition & Sound Design is a course that builds upon my Introduction to Audio Art course. In order to allow the student to grasp (literally) the concepts we have been working on, we needed to get keyboard controllers. Now, rather than clicking and dragging knobs or pushing buttons on screen, students can map those function to the physical knobs and buttons on their keyboards. The makes the user experience completely customizable and unique to each student. We have been spending a lot of time learning about the basics of sound synthesis with virtual analog synthesizers. We will build upon this knowledge with some basic music theory to allow students to create original compositions, utilizing the original sounds they are developing with the synthesizers.”
