To keep tuition at an affordable level, to hire and retain great teachers, and to recruit a talented and diverse student body, we must strengthen the school’s intellectual foundation by building a strong endowment. Half of the Priorities for Pomfret campaign is devoted to this effort.

Pomfret is committed to remaining small, both in total number of students and student-teacher ratio. Its intimate scale separates it from most of its competitors and contributes significantly to the quality of the experience it offers.

But small size yields a limited amount of tuition income, which covers only 70 percent of the cost of a Pomfret education. The remaining 30 percent must be supplied by the Annual Fund and income generated by the school’s endowment.

"Our daughters' characters were developed at Pomfret, with the help of people who treat every student as an individual. There's a distinctive quality to this school which originates with the headmaster. The commitment of the faculty is so great; the outreach and offers of extra help are constant. It's a very humane place that also has tremendous academic integrity."
