|  | About Pomfret Clubs and Activities | At Pomfret there are a number of clubs and organizations open to all students. Some are academic in nature; some focus on social activism or community building; others are for pure enjoyment.These clubs establish an increased sense of commitment to the community and build camaraderie among their members. Of course, students whose interests lie outside the already established organizations may choose to start their own club with the guidance of a faculty member. |
Amnesty International Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights for all. |

 Book Club Once a month, students choose a book, read it on their own, and meet to discuss it. At the discussion meeting, the group usually chooses the book for the following month. It's not necessary to have read the book to attend the discussion - it's open for anyone who is up for a conversation about the topic of the book. |

 Calligraphy Club Calligraphy Club is a recreational club which affords students an opportunity to learn how to write Chinese Calligraphy and create their own, calligraphic masterpieces. We welcome students of all levels who are interested in Chinese culture and calligraphy. No previous experience with calligraphy is needed. |

 Classic Film Club An informal club with an open-door membership. We meet each Saturday night at 7PM to screen "classic" fils in the Centennial Auditorium. The thought-provoking selections we screen include award-winning, mainstream features, innovative, independent films, and foreign films. Each movie is followed by an optional open discussion in which we review/grade the film. It is a great way to spend the early part of your Saturday night before most of the weekend activities begin.  Culinary Arts Club The Culinary Arts club is a club for all that love to cook! This club is also for those who enjoy eating good food and want to learn how to make it. There is no cooking experience is needed, just a love for food. |

 Culturefest Culturefest is a student-run group that seeks to recognize and celebrate the different cultures represented within the Pomfret community. By providing opportunities for community members to sample different cultures, we hope to foster a spirit of inquiry and appreciation that will lead to a deeper understanding of our shared cultural heritage. Culturefest seeks to educate its audience as well as to entertain it. In order to accomplish these goals, we organize the following activities:
- CultureFest: A spring show that combines music, theatre, dance, poetry and story-telling among other forms of self expression
- Trips to ethnic themed restaurants
- Articles on important national days and cultural practices of our students and faculty in the Ponterfract
- Small workshops that explore cultural practices

 Diplomacy An Avalon Hill game of skill and cunning negotiations. Chance plays no part. In "Diplomacy", seven players guide the destiny of Europe. Each seeks power through the intricacis of international politics. By negotiating alliances with peer and careful planning, each player seeks control of Europe. "Diplomacy" is a realistic game of strategy without dice, and nothing left to luck alone. The Diplomacy Club, founded in the fall of 1988 and comprised of current students and faculty from Pomfret School, tests a student's ability not only to plan a campaign, but also to outwit his or her fellow players in dimplomatic negotiation.  Environmental Club The Environmental Club exists to perpetuate good environmental practices at Pomfret School. The club sponsors several recycling efforts (paper, batteries, cell phones, printer cartridges, athletic shoes and the like), promotes good environmental practices (such as saving energy and water through education and through initiatives such as distributing energy efficient light bulbs to students and faculty, manufacturing biodiesel, etc). and raises money to support environmental causes.  Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Established recently, the group seeks to educate the community about issues of sexuality. The GSA also serves to support those who struggle or have friends and relatives who struggle with issues regarding orientation. All members are welcome to bi-weekly and sometimes weekly meetings.  Glee Club A student-run group created for students who want to perform outside of the classroom setting. Glee combines vocals, choreography, and instrumental music.Glee meets once a week and works toward participation in events such as Pomfret's A Capella Fest.Community outreach is a goal for this year's club. |

 Hillel Hillet is an organization for Jewish students, and gatherings serve as a time for fellowship, support, reflection, and celebration. The group meets for dinner together on Friday evenings bi-monthly. Additionally, the group organizes and leads Jewish Chapel service, celebrates Jewish holidays and traditions, and participates in serving the greater community in a variety of ways.  International Students Club International Students Club is run by a student presidents and provides fun activities both on campus and off. The International Club has had danucvces, hosted dinners using favorite dinners from home, celebrated events such as Chinese New Year, and planned Sunday bus trips to Boston and Providence.  Investment Club Open to all students who are interested in learning about the stock market and other sorts of investments, either for a future career or personal knowledge.The group meets monthly to learn about various investment¬related topics such as P/E ratios, dividends, penny stocks, compounding, and dollar cost averaging.  Key Club Key, the largest club on campus - over 100 students strong - a club and community service project rolled into one big opportunity. Key Club members give tours of Pomfret to prospective students and their parents. Ordinarily, Pomfret students give about one tour per week to families.  Manuscripts Manuscripts is the student literary publication. Advised by a faculty member, Ms. Michelle Brown, it is edited and published by a seniior editor who works with a volunteer staff of student assistants. Those who aspire to be editors in their senior year should join the staff as underformers and be consistent contributors to the production process.  Math Club Invites all students to compete against 12 other Eastern Connecticut schools in the New London County Math League. Each of the six competitions consists of five written rounds of three math questions each and one team round, which take approximately one and a half hours. Teams that do well in the local league are invited to compete at the State and New England Competitions held in April and May. The most talented individuals are also eligible to join the Connecticut All-State team that competes at Penn State in May. Members meet with the faculty advisor one hour per week, or as arranged, to prepare for the contests. Teams have also competed in the American Math Competitions, the Worcester Polytechnical Institute meet, and the Havard-MIT meet. Faculty Advisor: Mr. Marshall Eaton |

 National Junior Classical League (NJCL) An organization of junior and senior high school students sponsored by the American Classical League. Composed of local and state/provincial chapters across the United States, Canada, and Australia, it is the largest Classical organization in the world today with over 50,000 members. At Pomfret, the club is open to all students of Latin or those with a strong and legitimate interest in the classics, with the intent of encouraging an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. There is a national membership fee of $2, which allows students to be eligible for regional NJCL activities. Additionally, Latin students who are in good standing with the organization and who earn an A average are eligible to apply for the NJCL Latin Honor Society. Faculty Advisor: Mrs. Jacquet |

 Relay for Life Relay for Life is a non-profit club run by students to help raise money for The American Cancer Society to help find a cure for cancer. Our members host several events such as Relay Rejuvenation, the Krispy Kreme sale, and a luminaria. We also attend the overnight Relay for Life at the Woodstock Fairgrounds (along with many other Relay groups and high schools) in order to help participants celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. |

 Ski Club Meets six Sundays in January and February. In the past we have skied in Stratton Mountation, Mt. Snow, Bromley and Magic Mountain. Students sign up in December for the series, or they may sign up by the week. Rentals are available at the various mountains, as are lessons. Faculty members go with the groups.  Swing Club Swing Club is a group of students interested in learning the jazzy style of dancing popular in the '20s and '30s. No previous dancing skills required - just a desire to have fun. |

 The Pontefract Pomfret’s school newspaper is written, edited and designed by students and reports on all news that affects the School community.  VOICE A student organization that was created to lend support to all students of the Pomfret community who consider themselves a minority and to educate culturally the School community. VOICE enables students to discuss opinions in matters of concern to them. VOICE does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, religion, nationality or creed.  WBVC 91.1 FM WBVC 91.1 FM is Pomfret's source for eclectic student radio. WBVC is a 100 watt station that broadcasts 24/7 into Pomfret and its surrounding communities. The station is staffed buy an afternoon crew of six students who are responsible for its programming and maintenance. Students in the club broadcast and eclectic mix of music and talk throughout the school year. WBVC is also open to faculty and community DJs. Faculty Advisor: Tim Peck |

 Women's Action Coalition (W.A.C.) A discussion¬based group that meets approximately once per month during the school year to discuss topics related to the roles of women and men on the Pomfret School campus and in society as a whole.
